Curiosity: Will Sony’s next big thing be a new Drone?
Two anonymous sources hinted about a possible surprising announcement: A Sony Drone!
Just a year ago I would have dismissed this possibility as nonsense. But recently many things made me reconsider my position:
The DJI Inspire 2 (here on Amazon) uses a Micro Four Thirds mount camera and is the hottest Drone of the moment. this thing sells for over $4,000 and there are is a big accessories market too. Seems like there is money to make here.
Last week Canon announced their first Drone too.
Engadget just reported that “dollar-for-dollar drone sales in the United States have more than doubled over the past year“.
I can now see the potential for a Sony Drone. But there is also a risk: GoPro failed with their Karma launch and has a huge loss because of that. There is also plenty of good players making drones. So if Sony enters the game they really have to get it right from the start.
